Soul Food Friday: Kitchen Love Lessons | Indianapolis Food Blogger

The above picture is one of my favorite images. The two people in this image of my maternal grandparents.

Yes, they really are that cute and yes, they still hold hands and make lovey-dovey faces to each other, even after over 60 years of marriage.
But, let me get back to the purpose of this post.
This isn’t my typical Recipe or Soul Food Friday post. It’s more of a little background into the woman that is the machine behind FoodLoveTog.

Today I’m writing about my grandmother, or Granny as she is called in my family. I’ve loved her as long as I can remember. And right now she’s currently in ICU fighting some nasty germs and sickness, but if you’re like me, and you read this blog, you know that I’m believing in God for a full recovery.
My Granny is one of the first women, along with my mother who showed me what cooking with love meant.
It meant weeknight dinners of delicious food, dinner time chats and laughs, and most importantly, and opportunity to learn. You see, I spent a lot of time with my Granny after school, while growing up. She showed me things, like how to thread a needle, how to make a crust, and how to make a man drool over delicious pot roast. (Her pot roast is THAT good!)
The love lessons my Granny taught me will forever been engraved on my heart and in my brain.
I owe many a recipe to my Granny- that biscuit recipe, a combination of yours. Mason Jar Punch- she was the first person to foster my love of drinking out Mason Jars, an addiction to bacon- well.. My mom did that, but my mom is her daughter, so I can pretty much thank Granny for that too.

I wrote all this to say, the time we have with people is set. Only God knows when it’s time for them to reside back in the heavenly folds.
Take the time to cherish the people you have while you have them. I call it the “Flowers While They Live” movement.
Get in the kitchen with them, show them your favorite recipe, help them create their own.

Thanks for reading guys!
Whatever you do, please remember to enjoy every moment here, and most of all, Love God. Love People. Eat Good!
