Good Morning and Happy Friday!
I’m back with a dose is soul food, dealing with forgiveness.
Yep, I talk about forgiveness a lot in this space, mainly because it’s just so important that we do it.
This month, families all over the United States celebrated Father’s Day, and what I’ve come to notice via social media, is that several people are really hurting and bitter over that holiday. Many with absent fathers, have taken to their social media accounts to bash daddy on that day.
Man does that break my heart. Reading some of the posts and tweets just truly saddened me this year. While reading, I just kept saying to myself “Forgive, Forgive him, let it go, forgive him.” Hard road to trudge though. I can stay that because I am just now at a place where I have forgiven my dad for his absenteeism after my parents divorced. Yes. I struggled with it, I spent years angry, pissed and just plain hurt over the actions of my dad. Forgiveness had to happen. I had to let go of that hurt if I wanted to move forward.
Insert pregnancy and the birth of my daughter.
Things changed. My father began reaching out more, we were communicating. He no longer saw me as his little girl. I no longer saw him as just as my dad. Often times, we hold our parents in such a high regard, we forget that they are human. Capable of making mistakes. We hashed things out. Most of all, I had an honest conversation with him. I told him I was hurting. Conversations like that are often the most painful ones to have, yet they are the most needed.
Secondly, I had to forgive my dad, because biblically, we are called to forgive others.
Ephesians 4:31-32 NIV says,
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
“Just as Christ God forgave you.”
“Just as Christ God forgave you.”
“Just as Christ God forgave you.”
If God can forgive my mess, my dirt, who I am to not forgive someone who has hurt me?
The image above is of my dad and my daughter. Priceless. Moments like that would not have been possible without forgiveness.
Thank you for reading.

Yes. Forgiveness is a part of life that is the hardest to do at times but very necessary. Thanks for sharing.
