Flaky Biscuits | Indianapolis Food Blogger 8

Bread is my weakness. In a low carb world, all it takes is the smell of bread to make me fold. Needless to say… I make biscuits a lot!
Bread is one of those things that can be easier or hard… Depending on your feelings for measuring and what not.

The recipe below is a combination of my grandmothers and some fine tuning and tweaking of my own.

Ingredients

Flaky Biscuits
A yummy, buttery, EASY biscuit. You can whip these up for dinner in a flash.

Ingredients
  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. 1 tablespoon white sugar
  5. 1/3 cup shortening or (3/4 stk butter)
  6. 1 cup milk
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually stir in milk until dough pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  3. Turn out onto a floured surface.
  4. Pat or roll dough out to 1 inch thick, fold, pat again (I flatten and pat twice). Cut biscuits with a large cutter or juice glass dipped in flour. Repeat until all dough is used. Brush off the excess flour, and place biscuits onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges begin to brown.
  6. Top with butter or honey. Enjoy!
Notes
  1. I have adapted these with buttermilk.
